Loading ...South Korean giants Samsung and LG have recently hired new design executives, aiming to enhance their handsets’ UIs.
Samsung has hired Jung Ji-hong as vice president of its Mobile Design Group. A professor of Visual Communication Design at Kookmin University in Seoul, Jung Ji-hong will help Samsung improve its smartphone user experience – probably only on Android and Bada smartphones (both using TouchWiz UI), since Windows Phone 7 does not support custom UIs.
Lee Kun-pyo, LG’s new head and executive vice president of Design Management Center, is also a professor – more exactly, he’s dean at the Department of Industrial Design, KAIST (aka the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology).
Reportedly an expert in interface design and human-centered design, Lee Kun-pyo should help LG improve its award-winning S-Class UI – or maybe create a brand new UI for the company’s upcoming smartphones.
Bada-based Samsung Wave vs. Android-based LG Optimus
Samsung and LG are the world’s second and third-largest phone makers, and yet they’re not big players when it comes to smartphones. But they both have plans to boost their smartphone market share: Samsung bets heavily on its Galaxy S and Wave series, while LG will try to lure customers with its Optimus range.
