Microsoft Tag Reader is the company’s first Android app

Already available for Windows Mobile, iPhone, Symbian and Blackberry, Microsoft Tag Reader has now been released as an Android app.

This is Microsoft’s first application made for Google’s Android platform, and, like the versions for other platforms, it allows you to use your phone’s camera to scan barcodes found on products, magazines and so on. When the scanning is complete, the application provides “information, videos, promotions, exclusive offers and much more” directly to your phone.

Microsoft Tag for Android is a free application and can be downloaded via Android Market.

We should expect more apps from Microsoft to be launched for Android – maybe a Bing app will be among them, since this is already available for iPhone (which directly competes with both Microsoft’s Windows Mobile and Google’s Android).
