First Asus Windows Phone 7 device spotted?

While Asus was on the list of manufacturers that would introduce Windows Phone 7 devices, since the official announcement of Microsoft’s newest mobile operating system things have been quiet from the Taiwanese company on this front.

In the mean time we’ve heard of one of Samsung’s WP7 offerings, the i917 Cetus, and that was about it regarding WP7 hardware.

Now it appears that an Asus WP7 smartphone is out there in the wild, in Pakistan.

There’s no way to tell if this is legit, but it does look sweet. This may be a carrier-branded phone, since it has “powered by Asus” on it in below the screen.

No specs, price or possible release date are known, but that brushed metal sure is nice.

What Asus getting serious about WP7 may mean for its partnership with Garmin, and their Garmin-Asus Android-powered, navigation-focused smartphones is unclear. What is certain though is that Garmin’s own-brand mobile sales have been disappointing, to say the least. The partnership with Asus may not be yielding much better results.

And perhaps Asus wants to replicate Samsung’s strategy of releasing devices that run all the mobile operating systems known to man.

If we’ll see half a dozen or so WP7 devices very soon after the OS officially launches, the many Android smartphones already available by then may have some very interesting competitors.
